The Toronto Children's Breakfast Club

Security Canada Central is a proud supporter of The Toronto Children’s Breakfast Club.
The Toronto Children’s Breakfast Club began in 1984 largely through the auspices of the Jane/Falstaff community. In consultation with community residents and the staff of The Metropolitan Toronto Housing Authority it was determined that there were numerous community needs that could be addressed through the development of a breakfast programme. These needs included:
- A nutritious start to the day for children who would help prevent behavioral problems, limited attention span, truancy and frequent tardiness.
- A safe place for parents to leave their children when they left for wok in the morning. Many children were responsible for providing breakfast for themselves and younger siblings when their parents left for work.
- A warm and caring environment where children felt comfortable and supported.
Today, The Toronto Children’s Breakfast Club provides programmes in 19 communities. The programmes are individual to each community. Staff and volunteers work in collaboration with a number of community partners, including community residents, agencies and organizations. Each site has a Community Advisory Board who members are concerned residents who advise staff and shape the programme to best meet the needs of the community.
